Thomas got the short end of the stick that night.\u00a0 He was on the graveyard shift for his beat in Central Harlem.\u00a0 The Patrolman was attached to the Juvenile Aid Bureau at the West 132<sup>nd<\/sup> Street Police station.\u00a0 The date was January 20, 1945, very early Saturday morning and probably bitter cold.\u00a0 Everyone was in bed, or should have been in bed&#8230;\u00a0 Stanley B. Thomas was patrolling West 145<sup>th<\/sup> Street between 7<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue and Lenox Avenue when he saw several young men running away.\u00a0 He chased them and caught one of them who told him that one of the other boys \u2013 Rudolph White \u2013 was armed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Patrolman then chased Rudolph noticing the butt end of a pistol protruding from his right overcoat pocket.\u00a0 After a nine block chase, he caught Rudolph in front of 117 West 136<sup>th<\/sup> Street.\u00a0 Frisking him, he found an unloaded, .45 caliber Colt pistol in his pocket.\u00a0 Heavy fire power for the 19 year-old.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3941\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/newyorkcitygangs.com\/?attachment_id=3941\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3941\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3941\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3941\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newyorkcitygangs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/117-West-136th-Street.jpg?resize=640%2C901&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"901\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newyorkcitygangs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/117-West-136th-Street.jpg?resize=727%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 727w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newyorkcitygangs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/117-West-136th-Street.jpg?resize=213%2C300&amp;ssl=1 213w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newyorkcitygangs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/117-West-136th-Street.jpg?resize=768%2C1082&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newyorkcitygangs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/117-West-136th-Street.jpg?w=853&amp;ssl=1 853w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3941\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">117 West 136th Street.\u00a0 This is the building where Rudolph White of the Sabers was arrested.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rudolph defiantly refused to give the Patrolman a statement other than the fact that he got the weapon several days ago in the vicinity of West 144<sup>th<\/sup> Street and 8<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue.\u00a0 Rudolph was a member of a vicious gang called the Sabers which was responsible for various crimes and gang fights in Harlem.\u00a0 Rudolph was a \u201csturdy, well proportioned person who present[ed] a surly and defiant attitude with respect to constituted authority.\u201d\u00a0 He was\u00a0 \u201cwillful,\u201d \u201cobstinate\u201d and he resented criticism.\u00a0 When he didn\u2019t get his way, he became hostile and aggressive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rudolph gave his address as a furnished room on St. Nicholas Avenue in Manhattan.\u00a0 But the truth of the matter was that Rudolph was from the Bronx;
